Dometic CFX3 45 Portable Fridge Review: Is It Worth It for Truckers?

My quick take

I'll be straight with you. Pricey, but it's quiet, sips power and keeps food cold in a hot cab. It's the one I'd buy for the long haul. Eating out every day drains your wallet and your health. A little 12V gear lets you cook, keep food cold and actually rest.

I don't care about fancy boxes or a long list of features nobody uses. What matters out here is simple: does it work when you need it, does it hold up to the bouncing and the heat and the cold, and is it worth what you pay? That's how I looked at the Dometic CFX3 45 Portable Fridge. If you already know this is the one, you can check the current price on Amazon here and skip the rest.

What you get

Specs can change between versions, so double-check the listing for the exact model before you order.

What I like about it

• Very efficient
• Quiet
• Built to last

Those are the things that actually make a difference on a long run. A lot of drivers I talk to say the same thing: once you have one that works, you stop thinking about it — and that's the whole point. Plenty of reviews on the Dometic CFX3 45 Amazon page back that up, so it's worth a read if you want more opinions.

What I don't like

• Expensive
• Heavy

No product is perfect, and I'd rather tell you now than have you find out at a truck stop at 2 a.m. For most drivers these aren't deal-breakers, but they matter depending on how you run.

Before you buy

Watch the amp draw against your batteries and the size against your bunk space. Measure before you buy.

Who should buy it (and who shouldn't)

Buy the Dometic CFX3 45 Portable Fridge if you're one of the drivers who want the best fridge. That's who it's built for, and that's where it shines. If one of the downsides above is a big deal for you, look at the other picks in Cab Comfort & 12V Life — there's probably a better fit. Still on the fence? See what other drivers are saying about it — the questions section is gold.

My bottom line

The Dometic CFX3 45 Portable Fridge earns a 4.7 out of 5 from me. It's not about having the most expensive gear — it's about having gear that doesn't let you down when the load's on the line. For drivers who want the best fridge, this is an easy one to recommend.
